Most years, I look and listen for a Scripture to guide me through the new year. This year I settled on Psalm 37:5. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do it.” I have a plaque from my husband’s family with the German version of this verse).
I read through Psalm 37 with pen in hand and outlined the truths so I could see them more clearly. Here’s what I found…
The Declaration:
I realized on a closer look that verse 5 moves right into verse 6. “…He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”
I love this promise and will cling to it in the coming year.
The Method:
1. Do not fret (evildoers will soon wither like grass) (v. 1)
2. Trust in the LORD… (v. 3)
3. Do good (v. 3)
4. Enjoy (safe pasture) (v. 3)
5. Delight yourself (in the LORD) (v. 4)
6. Trust in Him (v. 4)
7. Be still (v. 7)
8. Wait (v. 7)
9. Refrain from anger (v. 8)
10. Turn from wrath (v. 8)
11. Do not fret (v. 8)
The Result:
He will do this:
—make your righteousness shine like the dawn
—and the justice of your cause like the noonday sun
The Promise:
Those who hope in the LORD will
—inherit the land
—receive secure entitlement
—and bountiful provision
What more could we ask? I say Amen!
Blessings on your 2021.
