Christian romantic intrigue at its best.

A young woman with a head injury and memory loss from a traumatic assault can’t trust anyone, because she doesn’t know if they are friend or foe.

Summer Velásquez flees to small town Elora, Ontario to escape the intruder who tried to kill her. She has no idea what he was after, or how to avoid him, since she can’t remember what he looks like. Meanwhile, she is befriended by handsome Ryan Taylor, who is also new to town. Can she trust him, or is he also weaving a web to catch her?

This story is gripping on many levels. It includes suspense, romance, action, personal issues such as coping with loss and grief and forgiveness. One of the reader discussion questions grabbed my interest: on what level does our relationship with God dwell? Is it lost down deep?

The characters are well-rounded. I especially like the eccentric landlady, Nancy, who takes Summer under her wing. My favourite quote from Nancy is, “You can choose your own family, you know, especially if the one you’re born into turns out to be a dud.” Nancy’s humour and warmth help to offset the intensity of a tightly-tuned plot.

There is constant action, and a time restriction also factors in. The reader cannot guess the outcome, because of things we don’t know until the end. Masterfully done.
