Lane Steen is a beautiful story involving the life of a child taken from her mother at a young age, and raised by her abusive father. The author portrays the abuse with strength, but keeps the story readable for those of us who don’t deal well with violent content. A masterful touch.
This somewhat old-fashioned story features the life-changing results of a life given to God, moving, albeit slowly, from bitterness and hatred to acceptance and love. I think the characters work well together, creating a plausible story. Other characters besides the main ones, Lane and Guy, face various trials that test them and change them, but I especially like the quiet determination of Guy, and the sweetness of Little Jimmy. The settings are realistic, making me want to see the Ozarks.
An inspiring story, a first novel from this gifted author. Look for the second book in the Valley Creek Redemption series soon.
