Safety in Dangerous Times

I recently rediscovered a photograph of my dad and me on my fourth birthday. We’re on a gondola lift—rather like a single-seat lift at a ski hill—at Banff National Park. I’m sitting on my father’s lap, he has his arm around me and all that’s holding us in as we glide far above the mountain is a metal bar. There are no harnesses or restraints in sight. As I study the photograph I also notice the metal rod that connects the seat to the overhead cable.
Two thoughts come to me when I look at that photo—make that three: the first is that it was taken a very long time ago! Secondly, just a glance reminds me of my dad’s love for me, which I never doubted for a moment, and that I am completely secure in his arms. And thirdly, the rod connecting the chair to the cable is what keeps us in motion and on track.
As writer, I’m on a journey, an uphill ride that is not without potential dangers, trials and interruptions of many kinds. It’s important, I think, to be reminded of the security of my heavenly Father’s arm around me, of His protection, also that my connection to Him is what keeps me going and gives me direction.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving, protecting and guiding me. May my writing be praise to You.
